Dealing with academic workload planning

Many UCU Derby members will be involved in the Academic Workload Planning (AWP) system. In principle, the idea of having a workload planning system that can ensure some equity and prevent people from taking on too much is a good idea. But in practice AWP often ends up a way of overloading people.

We would encourage members to get familiar with the AWP system. The University has set out the AWP model in detail on Sharepoint, so make sure that you read it to check that you know what it does, and does not, allow.

One important thing to remember when discussing your workload is that 34 units equates to 550 teaching hours. This is the maximum teaching workload per academic year  in the post-1992 national academic contract.

Any problems then contact the union using the form on the homepage.
