Strike action and hardship fund

In case of genuine financial hardship, UCU Derby invites applications to its local hardship fund for partial compensation for strike-related pay deductions covering the first two strike days. Eligibility criteria have to be met.

Paid-up UCU members can also apply to the National UCU Fighting Fund for reimbursement for strike-related pay deductions, from the third strike day onwards. For future reference, here is the link for the national UCU Fighting Fund: UCU – UCU Fighting Fund 2025 .

Eligibility

UCU Derby will provide an application form in due course. In the meantime please Contact UCU on using the form on this website if you want to apply for hardship funds.

In order to apply for a payment from the UCU Derby Hardship Fund, members must:

  • be paying subscriptions at the correct rate (if any subscription is payable);
  • have participated in the strike action;
  • provide evidence of pay deduction for strike action (e.g. a payslip). All claims to the Fund must be submitted within 3 months of the pay deduction.

Payments from the local Hardship Fund are very unlikely to match the amount of pay lost on account of strike action.

UCU Derby endeavours to give priority of payment from the local Hardship Fund to members most in need. As we currently have limited resources to support staff, please only apply for the local Hardship Fund if you are in financial difficulty.
